Pediatric surgeon Naomi Horton wants a baby. Her hunky new boss, Dr. Rick Weber, would be the perfect father. She’s had one miscarriage and has been told she might not be able to conceive again, which is why her former husband bailed. She’s ready to try the artificial insemination route, as soon as her work schedule permits. But there’s one emergency after another, and she keeps bumping into the new boss as they save children in the pediatric trauma unit.

Rick’s wife and two-year-old daughter were killed in a car accident two years ago. He’s still grieving and not ready to get involved with anyone — though when he’s around Naomi his body tells him a different story.

The Harlequin Medical Romances aren’t usually sold in the U.S., but I understand they’re doing it for a short try out. I sat down with this book while I ate my lunch on Tuesday. 143 pages later my dog started barking crazily at something she saw through the front window. Otherwise I would have read it in one sitting. I went back about two hours later — to read just a little more — and didn’t stop until I finished it.

With both doctors working in a pediatric trauma unit, there were enough emergencies to keep the tension up. Laura Iding combined this with enough romance to keep the heat up. I felt the pain of both characters, and kept turning the pages to see how the author was going to make the HEA happen. Laura’s writing is excellent. Some day I expect to see her name on a single title book. Soon, I hope!
